Rabbi Dr. Elie Abadie is Senior Rabbi Emeritus of the Jewish Council of the
Emirates and the Association of Gulf Jewish Communities. Previously served as the founding rabbi of the Edmond J. Safra Synagogue and the Moise Safra Center in Manhattan, and as Director of Sephardic Studies at Yeshiva University. Rav Ilan Acoca was born and raised in Bat-Yam, Israel. Prior to moving to New Jersey in 2016, Rav Acoca served as Rabbi of Congregation Beth Hamidrash in Vancouver for seventeen years and taught regularly in the local Jewish schools. Rabbi Ratzon Arusi
Hakham Ratzon Halevi Arussi was born in Sanaa and is the Chief Rabbi of the city of Kiryat Ono, member of the Council of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel, founder and chairman of the organization Halichot Am Yisrael, and President of Machon Mishnat Ha-Rambam. He has a PhD in law from Tel Aviv University, and was a lecturer in Mishpat Ivri at Bar Ilan University. He is the winner of the Katz Prize for 2019. He is considered the primary disciple of Rabbi Yosef Qafih (Kapach).

Rabbi Sam Kassin, is a beloved figure in Jewish education and a founding force behind the Shehebar Sephardic Center (SSC) in Jerusalem. Born in New York and raised in Miami Beach, he went to Ner Israel Yeshiva and later studied at Porat Yosef Yeshiva, where he was ordained by Rabbi Ovadia Yosef. In 1972, he founded and led the Sephardic High School in Brooklyn before returning to Israel to direct Aish HaTorah’s one-year program and, later, to co-found SSC in the Old City. Under his charismatic leadership, SSC has become a global hub for Sephardic education, earning the Jerusalem Prize in 1998.

Previously, he was the Assistant Rabbi of Congregation Ramath Orah in Manhattan and also devoted his time to Jewish Education, having taught at the YU High School for Boys and at the Torah Academy of Bergen County in New Jersey. Rabbi Tokayer teaches at Yeshiva of Flatbush, and currently serves as President of the Rabbinical Council of America (RCA).

Rabbi Frank Varon
Rabbi Frank Varon, a native of the Seattle Sephardic community, serves as Hazzan and an educator in the synagogue of his youth, Sephardic Bikur Holim Congregation. The synagogue is home to the one of the largest Sephardic Turkish communities in America, where Rabbi Varon has been a key contributor to the preservation of its unique liturgical music, including the rich Ladino romanzas, together with his penchant for studying and imparting a classical Sephardic understanding of biblical and rabbinic literature.

Rabbi Jack Varon is the eldest grandson of Hakham Faur. Most recently served as assistant Rabbi of Ohab Zedek in the Upper West Side, alongside Rabbi Allen Schwartz. He was also the curriculum coordinator of Judaic studies at Manhattan Day School. This year he will be taking up a leadership position as Associate Director of Judaic Studies for the Upper School of the Posnack School in South Florida.

Avi Garson – SRC Organizer
Avi Garson is the Director of Tikvah’s Menachem Begin Scholars Program, and co-founder of The Habura, an international Bet Midrash, forum, and learning community dedicated to the study and promotion of the classical Sephardic tradition. Born in London and raised in Gibraltar, he spent three years in Yeshiva before earning a bachelor's in politics from City University of London, and a master's in security studies from UCL. He is a former Krauthammer Fellow, currently an LSJS Rabbi Sacks Learning Fellow and member of the Omni-American Ambassadors Program.

Ethan Marcus – SRC Organizer
Ethan Marcus is the Managing Director of the Sephardic Jewish Brotherhood of America, the national umbrella organization for the Ladino-speaking Sephardic community in the United States. He previously served as the Brotherhood's Director of Communications and the Director of Community Development for the Seattle Sephardic Community. In 2019 Ethan was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study in Athens, Greece, where he conducted an independent research project on the unique liturgical customs of the Romaniote Jews of Greece. He is a graduate of Princeton University's School of Public and International Affairs.

Ohad Fedida is based in Miami and serves on the Habura's administrative team. He has studied under HaRav Yochanan Zweig and Rabbi Joseph Dweck, and is committed to revitalizing the Sephardic tradition as a living, grounded approach to Jewish life. He works as a research analyst in social psychology, specializing in cybersocial threats and foreign influence. His work has been published in leading journals and featured in national and international media. He is pursuing a PhD from Rutgers University, focusing on social contagions and extremism.

Dr. Dodie Katz is the Senior Director of Jewish Day School Strategies and Dean of the Truman Scholars Program at Tikvah. Prior to this, she served as Assistant Professor of Curriculum and Pedagogy & Applied Linguistics, as well as Assistant Director of Graduate Studies at the Middlebury School of Hebrew. She has also held faculty positions at Brandeis University and The George Washington University. Dr. Katz earned her Doctorate in Curriculum and Pedagogy from The George Washington University and completed post-doctoral training in Psychoanalytic Studies at the Washington Baltimore Center of Psychoanalysis. She holds an MA in Near Eastern and Judaic Studies and a BA in Anthropology, Hebrew Language & Literature, and Near Eastern & Judaic Studies, from Brandeis University.

Eli Shaubi
Eli is a PhD student in the Department of Arabic Language and Literature at the Hebrew University, where he specializes in Judeo-Arabic Literature. His doctorate focuses on the Maimonidean roots in the thought of R. Abraham Maimonides. He also recently served as editor for the first volume of the Collected Works of Hakham Dr. Jose Faur, published through Koren as part of the Library of the Jewish People series. He previously also served as the Translation Editor for a new Hebrew Translation of Maimonides' Guide for the Perplexed, published through Mif'al Mishneh Torah. In addition to his academic studies, Eli teaches at Yeshivat Eretz HaTzvi, and also heads the Israel Division of the Habura.

Ruben Shimonov
Born in Uzbekistan, Ruben Shimonov is an educator, community builder, and social entrepreneur with a passion for elevating the histories, heritage, and intellectual tradition of the Greater Sephardi world. Ruben is the American Sephardi Federation's National Director of Education & Sephardi House—an initiative that works to enrich Jewish campus life and young leadership with the vitality, vision, and values of the Sephardic tradition. As a visual artist, Ruben uses his multilingual Hebrew-Arabic-Persian calligraphy to build intercultural bridges and celebrate the diversity of the Greater Sephardi world. Ruben has lectured globally on the cultures and histories of Sephardic and Mizrahi communities.

Dr. Aryeh Tepper
Dr. Aryeh Tepper is the author of Progressive Minds, Conservative Politics: Leo Strauss' Later Writings on Maimonides (SUNY Press, 2013). He serves as the Director of Publications at the American Sephardi Federation and is a fellow at the Azrieli Center for Jewish Studies at Ben Gurion University and Polyhymnia. Aryeh co-directs the Omni-American Future Project, and his many essays and articles exploring various aspects of Classic Sephardic Judaism have appeared in various journals and academic publications.

Dr. Samuel Torjman Thomas teaches ethnomusicology and Sephardic Jewish Studies at City University of New York, and is a faculty member for both the ALEPH and Academy of Jewish Religion Cantorial Programs.
